BEST CANDIDATES
Breast enhancement can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. Before making a decision to have surgery, one's expectations and goals must be carefully discussed with the surgeon to assure a predictable and satisfying outcome.

The best candidates are women who are looking for an improvement in their appearance. As long as one is physically healthy and realistic in one's expectations, a satisfying and positive outcome should be expected.

THE CONSULTATION:
You will meet with Dr. Maggi and his staff, and tour the Center. Your medical history will be taken, a review of your expectations, and an examination will be performed by Dr. Maggi.

Dr. Maggi will review the type of breast implants and the surgical techniques available for the best individualized outcome. You may be asked to provide photographs of what breast size and shape you are interested in achieving (usually easily obtained from magazines). Individual photographs may be taken for computer imaging and comparison.

Additional visits with either the doctor, or his staff, may be required for a thorough understanding before undergoing surgery are easily available and encouraged.

THE PROCEDURES:
Performed as an outpatient, usually in a surgery center, the surgery typically takes 1 to 2 hours. Anesthesia is either intravenous sedation, or general. After surgery temporary soreness at the operative site, swelling, and some bruising may occur. Breasts may remain sensitive to stimulation for a few weeks.

In most cases, one should be able to be back at work in a few days.

Breast Reconstruction:
Women choose to have breast reconstruction for different reasons. Some desire larger breasts. Others want to replace breast contour that is often lost during pregnancy. In the procedure, an implant is placed underneath the breast tissue. Sometimes it is placed under the chest muscles. The choice of implant position is based on the shape of your current breast, the amount of breast tissue and overall body size. Incisions are made in one of three locations: Under the nipple, under the breast or in the underarm region. Again, the choice of incision position is based on current body and breast shape.

Breast Lift
As women age, their breasts tend to sag or drrop somewhat. This can be exacerbated by pregnancy or nursing. In these situations, many women enjoy beneficial results from a breast lift or "mastopexy." This procedure consists of the skin of the breast being tightened to return the breast to a more youthful shape, firmness, and position. Sometimes an implant is placed as part of the procedure to increase breast volume. Incisions are usually around the nipple and sometimes extend down to the underside of the breast. There are a lot of options in breast lift surgery, and at Austin Plastic Surgery Center we will work with you to choose the approach that will create the best results.

Male Chest Surgery (Gynecomastia)
Many men develop excess skin or breast tissue on their chests. This is a syndrome called gynecomastia and can lead to discomfort and embarrassment. The problem can be treated with direct excisional surgery, liposuction, or a combination of the two and results can be signifcantly pleasing.
