Liposuction
Description
Liposuction has become one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed today and is an extremely popular procedure for both men and women. Liposuction is an excellent choice if you are wishing to improve body shape and definition. Its primary purpose is to improve the appearance of the body by removal of excess fat from localized areas. Each individual has these local accumulations differing on the basis of sex, race, age, and heredity. The amount of fat that can be removed is determined by the patient's wishes and Dr. Maggi's recommendations, and limited only by medical safety.
Dr. Maggi most commonly uses the tumescent technique. This involves infusing a solution of saline and local anesthesia into the fatty tissue before removing it. This causes the area to become firm and swollen, which enables Dr. Maggi to extract fat more accurately and uniformly, thereby producing smoother and much safer results.
Our goal in liposuction is to produce a body contour that appears natural and is free of unsightly bulges. As with any procedure, there are limitations based on the patient's skin texture, thickness, and ability to retract.
Recovery
Most patients are back to performing their routine duties after a couple of days, but others may require 6 or 7 days to recover. Recovery time varies with how many areas are treated and with the type of activity the patient tends to resume. A special compression garment is worn under clothing for a period of time after the procedure. The garment is designed to help the skin contract after the surgery and its use will help the patient to achieve better results. Full recovery from swelling and bruising can take several months. Endermologie treatments are recommended post operatively to ensure optimal skin retraction.

Common Questions about Liposuction
1. What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a way to improve body contour by removing pockets of unwanted fat. Liposuction should not be used as a substitute for exercise and proper nutrition. It's primary purpose is to improve the appearance of the body by removing excess fat in the localized areas.
2. What technique does Dr. Maggi use for Liposuction?
Dr. Maggi uses the tumescent technique. In the tumescent technique, saline solution is infused into the area to be excised so that Dr. Maggi can remove the fat more efficiently. This allows the patient a faster, more comfortable recovery with less bruising.
3. Should I lose weight before Liposuction?
Before you have liposuction surgery, you should be at a weight that you can maintain over time without unhealthy dieting. Some of us will never be at what we might consider our “ideal” weight. However, liposuction can help us get closer to our goal by reducing the real problem areas which will allow our clothes to fit better, our body contours to look smoother, and helps us to have a better overall self-image.
4. Won't the fat come back if I gain weight?
The fat cells that are removed will never return. If you do gain weight, it will be distributed over your entire body as predetermined by your genetic makeup. Because there are much fewer fat cells remaining in the areas of removal, there will be less weight gained in that area. Many patients are so excited with their results, they are inspired to lose even more weight to enhance their new shape and smoother appearance.
5. What is recovery like after Liposuction?
Recovery from liposuction surgery varies with each individual and depends on the location and volume of body area that is treated. We send the patient home in a compression garment, which decreases pain and swelling. The patient is generally sore for about two weeks, although most patients return to work within a few days
