We believe in giving back…

At Austin Plastic Surgery Center, the cornerstone of our philosophy is social responsibility. We are committed to supporting not only our customers but the global community as well.

We are proud to support breast cancer research and invite you to read this letter to our company
from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation:

Dear Dr. Maggi and Staff,
On behalf of Evelyn Lauder, our Founder & Chairman, and our entire team, I would like to thank you for the thoughtful contribution… to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in honor of DR. MAGGI at AUSTIN PLASTIC SURGERY CENTER… A life that serves as an inspiration to give is a remarkable one, and we are touched by your tribute in this act of generosity to the Foundation.

Commitments from donors like you are crucial to eradicating breast cancer once and for all. Today, when only about 11 percent of meritorious, peer-reviewed applications receive funding from the National Institutes of Health, BCRF research grants are more important than ever. We believe that by endorsing the women and men who are developing the most innovative research directions, we can envision an end to not only breast cancer but all cancers. Our conviction is being realized. Already in 2008, two new BCRF-supported developments have been in the news. Avastin was approved for breast cancer treatment by the FDA in February. This drug, still being studied for maximum benefit in treating cancer, significantly slows the progression of tumors by cutting off their blood supply, a process called anti-angiogenesis. The late Dr. Judah Folkman, a BCRF grantee from 1995 until his death in January, pioneered this process; his career’s work is the basis of treatments such as Avastin. In other news announced in March, Dr. Kenneth Offit, BCRF grantee based at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, announced the discovery of a new genetic marker that will help scientists understand predisposition to breast cancer beyond the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes–a long-awaited addition to genetic inheritance studies.

Sincerely,
Myra J. Biblowit, President
